This issue: a deep-dive into Thermoteknix — United Kingdom — designer and manufacturer of infrared kiln shell scanners, high-definition burner and cooler cameras, and the software that ties them into one timeline, exclusively represented in Iraq by Sourh Zamzam. Every hot spot, every coating loss, every ring — seen while it is still a maintenance decision, not a shutdown.
One manufacturer across the whole kiln line. Outside the shell, inside the flame, along the cooler — and all of it on a single screen in the control room:
Plus tyre slip and ring migration monitoring on the support rollers, and full networked access so process engineers can view live or historical data from outside the control room.
Scans the full kiln 30 times per second at 2,048 linear samples per scan — every brick in every ring, from light-up to shut-down. A thermo-electrically cooled Mercury Cadmium Telluride detector and two internal blackbody references scanned on every revolution hold measurement accuracy through the whole campaign. Sealed IP66 aluminium housing, sapphire window on a CFD-designed air purge, fibre-optic transmission and full opto-isolation against lightning strikes.
The established Centurion platform with patented PosiTrak geometric linearisation, delivered as a complete system: air purge, heavy-duty blower and filter pack, mounting cradle, power and comms unit, PC interface, kiln synchronisation and tyre slip actuator switch, shipping case and control PC. Optional WinCem Graphic Professional 3D, WinBrix Refractory Expert, tyre slip software and OPC interfacing.
HD temperature measurement camera looking directly into the burning zone. Every pixel in the image is a temperature reading, so flame, clinker bed and refractory line can each carry their own measurement tool and their own alarm. Air-cooled with automatic retraction if the air supply fails or the camera overheats, and fibre-optic signal transmission up to 2 km back to the control room.
12-bit HD colour imaging of clinker flow — mounted forward-facing to watch the drop from kiln into cooler, or facing the cooler exit to follow clinker transport along the full length. Bed height, snowmen and cooler hot spots become visible instead of inferred. Needs only 300 litres/minute of compressed air, a fraction of alternative cameras, which means lower running cost and faster payback.
Coating and brick thickness calculated for the whole campaign so bricking work can be planned during normal operation. Dynamic multi-region trending, historical trend maps, worst-case temperature tracking from light-up to shut-down, heat-loss and thermodynamics package, tyre slip monitoring, full event logging and automatic alarm outputs — with interactive 2D and animated 3D thermal views.
One platform, one interface, one timeline — live shell temperature and coating data combined with live burner and cooler thermal video. For the first time an operator can follow a single event from the scanner, through the burning zone, into the cooler, and understand what caused it. Up to four sensors on one monitor or across multiple displays, full OPC DA and UA into your DCS without custom programming, and real-time alarming by screen, audio and email.
| WHAT YOU ARE FIGHTING | WHY IT COSTS YOU | THERMOTEKNIX SOLUTION |
|---|---|---|
| Shell hot spots & red spots | Shell distortion, emergency stop, unplanned reline | Centurion TK50 with alarm outputs to cooling fans / DCS |
| Coating loss & ring formation | Brick wear accelerates unseen between inspections | WinCem MultiView coating & brick thickness display |
| Roof supports blocking the view | A conventional scanner simply misses the hot spot | Stereo or tri-scanner system with PosiTrak alignment |
| Tyre slip / ring migration | Girth gear and support roller damage | Tyre Slip Monitoring option with per-rotation alarms |
| Flame shape & burner setting | Fuel waste, poor clinker, refractory attack | ThermaScope HDT radiometric burner camera |
| Cooler bed height & snowmen | Grate damage, lost recuperation, throughput loss | ThermaScope HDC colour cooler camera |
| Unplanned reline & stoppage | Days of lost production plus emergency refractory cost | Worst Case History & trend maps for reline planning |
| Alternative fuel instability | Unstable burning zone, emissions and quality swings | MultiView Enterprise — correlate fuel change to shell & cooler |
| Ageing scanner already installed | Spares risk, no coating data, operators stop trusting it | Upgrade path from WinCem Graphic / MultiView ThermaScope |
All systems are designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom under ISO 9001:2015, with a 24-month standard warranty. Performance figures are taken from official Thermoteknix publications and are for guidance; final specification is confirmed per kiln.

A system engineered for your kiln, not a catalogue number — scanner field of view is custom-aligned per kiln, and stereo or tri-scanner layouts are proposed where roof supports and covered kiln noses block a single line of sight.
An upgrade route, not a rip-and-replace — existing WinCem Graphic and MultiView ThermaScope installations can be moved to MultiView Enterprise, and software upgrades are available to sites already running Centurion and ThermaScope hardware.
Commissioning, alignment and operator training coordinated locally — a scanner that is mounted but never trusted is money wasted. We arrange the alignment, the DCS interfacing and the control-room training together with the manufacturer.
Full Iraq logistics managed by Sourh Zamzam — customs clearance, CBI-compliant invoicing and delivery to your plant gate across all Iraqi border crossings.
Independently certified under Ethixbase360 Trace. Sourh Zamzam is fully compliant with all applicable anti-corruption, anti-bribery and sanctions laws. Every 12 months we are re-certified through a rigorous third-party review of our documents, transactions and activities, with our full team trained and certified annually.
Verify Sourh Zamzam in the public Intermediary DirectoryKiln length and diameter, rotation speed, number of tyres, any roof supports or covered sections, and the make and age of any scanner or camera already installed — and we will prepare a Thermoteknix system proposal for your line.
